According to the president, there should be a guarantee that Russian murderers and facilitators of state terror will not use Schengen.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, criticized the EU’s policy on issuing visas to Russians.
He stated this in an evening video message. Zelensky reminded that Latvia recognized the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
“We are working to ensure that the whole world does the same. It is fair… and it will be! After everything the occupiers have done in Ukraine, there can be only one attitude towards Russia – as a terrorist state. And, by the way, it is from this point of view that the attitude towards the citizens of Russia should be determined,” the president said.
He thanked the Czech Republic, the Baltic states and other European countries, which brought the issue of visas for citizens of a terrorist state to the official level of discussion in the European Union.
At the same time, the head of state emphasized that there are people in the Russian Federation who need protection, who are persecuted in the Russian Federation or may be killed, and therefore, who should receive help from the civilized world through refugee mechanisms, requests for asylum, and others.
“But this is for those who are fighting and who are persecuted. And this should not apply to the rest of Russian citizens in Europe, tourism, entertainment and business. You cannot work for a terrorist state,” he emphasized.
According to Zelensky, there should be a guarantee that Russian murderers and facilitators of state terror will not use Schengen.
“You can’t destroy the very idea of Europe, our common European values, that is, you can’t turn Europe into a supermarket where it doesn’t matter who comes in, but the main thing is that people just pay for the goods,” the president said.
Earlier it became known that the Czech Republic, which presides over the Council of the European Union, will offer the EU countries to consider banning Schengen visas for Russians already at the end of August.
