YouTube Go: Google is discontinuing an alternative to the YouTube app

YouTube Go was launched in 2016 for weaker smartphones. As a small alternative to the regular YouTube app, it should offer a better experience than the regular app in areas with poor data connection and on devices with low performance and storage capacity. But you have to do without numerous functions. In YouTube Go, for example, you can neither comment nor upload your own content.

Google will discontinue YouTube Go in August 2022. Anyone who has previously used YouTube Go should in future use the regular app or access YouTube via the website. The step is now possible because the YouTube app has been greatly optimized in recent years, according to one Notice from YouTube. The performance on entry-level smartphones and in slow networks has been improved. YouTube is also working on other options to be able to better control data consumption if necessary.

Thus, previous users of YouTube Go can now expect a better experience despite any technical limitations in the regular YouTube app. In addition, they can access all functions of YouTube.
