Practicing yoga, together with meditations, has beneficial effects on our body and mind, helps us stop, anchor and be able to relax in today’s hectic and pre – digitized times – with a good dose of kindness to our body. It is a perfect combination, where yoga practice can also be understood as the development of the setting of consciousness, thinking, meditation and the development of sensory perception – all this is then expressed by asanas or yoga positions. Yoga and its various physical, breathing and mental exercises are then a complete, complex, healing form for our whole being. Thanks to this, we approach the very well-known saying: “A healthy spirit in a healthy body”.

Marie Zimáková, a yoga teacher and owner of the Body Positive Yoga studio in Prague, based on Dlouhá Street, specifies that the asanas themselves are only in third place in the ranking of “importance”. According to her, everyone should choose yoga at a level that they are able to practice, there are several types. In the first place in the ranking are the external patterns of behavior of Yamas and in the second place are the internal patterns of behavior of Niyamas. It is a kind of set of behavior towards oneself, but also towards oneself.

In Yamas, these are mainly patterns of nonviolence, truthfulness, non-alienation (whether it is classic theft or alienation, for example, of merit for the work of others), temperance (including prudent expenditure of energy) and non-adherence to things and people. All “rules” are related to the environment in which a person is located, as well as to the person himself.

Niyamas then describes patterns such as purity of body and mind, contentment, discipline and determination, self-observation and devotion to higher consciousness.
