Yes to state compensation for vaccine victims

Published November 10, 2021 at 6:27 p.m.

Anyone who suffers damage from an approved vaccine against covid-19 can receive compensation from the regular drug insurance. If a person does not receive full compensation from such insurance, state compensation must instead be paid in certain cases, according to the new law.

The compensation for damage from coronavina vaccine will thus be equivalent to other compensation for approved damage from medicines.

The state compensation shall be determined in accordance with the provisions of the Torts Act on compensation for personal injury. The compensation may not exceed SEK 10 million or 200 price base amounts per person according to the Social Insurance Code.

The new rules come into force on 1 December 2021, but can also be applied to damages that have occurred before that date.

The Riksdag also sent an announcement, a call, to the government to speed up a planned review of the compensation to children for injuries that may occur from vaccines against covid-19. The review should begin during the first quarter of 2022.
