Xiaomi will be launching the Xiaomi 12T in early October. The device is flanked by the probably even more powerful Xiaomi 12T Pro. Now the manufacturer has advertised on Twitter that the 12T series will celebrate its debut on October 4th and published an image that promises a 200-megapixel camera.

It is not yet clear whether this camera will only be installed in the 12T Pro or also in the 12T. However, rumors say that only the more expensive version of the smartphone is equipped accordingly. In the predecessors, the Xiaomi 12 and the Xiaomi 12 Pro, 50-megapixel main sensors were installed.

According to recent leaks, the price for the entry-level version of the 12T, with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of mass storage, is 580 euros. The 12T Pro with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB flash memory costs 770 euros. The 12T is also available with 256 GB of memory, which currently costs 630 euros. The 12T Pro with 12 GB RAM then costs 800 euros.

Only a test of the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro can show whether the 200 megapixels keep what the advertising promises. However, we still have to be patient for that. The predecessors Xiaomi 12 Pro and 12X had a quarter of the number of pixels at the time and were fully convincing.

An excerpt from the test of the Xiaomi 12 Pro, and the main optics: “The main camera of the Xiaomi 12 Pro works with 50 megapixels or with a resolution reduced to 12 megapixels. The 50 MP photos win the tight race for quality. The decisive factor for victory is the quality in bright light: with 12 megapixels, the 12 Pro achieves a clear “very good”, with 50 megapixels the image quality is ‘outstanding’. […]

In the dark (5 lux), the 50-megapixel images take the lead again, albeit with a sharp drop in fine detail, so that they just barely achieve a “satisfactory” rating. All in all, the wide-angle camera is very convincing with very good image quality: with a lot and with little light, with 12 and with 50 megapixels. However, there should be more in night shots.”
