Mercedes-Benz has decisively entered the era of electric cars, as evidenced by today’s world premiere of the all-electric EQS SUV model, which was held at 12 o’clock in digital format.
The EQS SUV combines the aerodynamic design and comfort of the EQS sedan with the spaciousness of the SUV. This model has a long wheelbase (3,210 millimeters) like the EQS sedan, but is over 20 centimeters taller. It is 5,125 mm long, 1,959 mm wide and 1,718 mm high, according to the detailed dimensions of the EQS SUV.
The luxury interior is equipped with advanced digital control and innovative decorative details that create an avant-garde ambience, the company said.
It can carry seven passengers, although the addition of a third row of seats with two additional separate seats is optional.
A member of the Board of Directors of Mercedes-Benz, Brita Seger, explained that the vehicle is intended for families because it offers enough seats and screens in high resolution to entertain the youngest, but also adventurers who need a spacious and comfortable car.
“When the EQS SUV is launched in the second half of 2022, it will fulfill the wishes of many customers. The target groups are different, but they are united by an active lifestyle. In the end, the EQS SUV just looks fantastic. “It combines luxury and technology in an important segment of electromobility and thus reflects the pioneering spirit of Mercedes-Benz,” said Seger.
Fans of Mercedes cars will be able to choose one of three versions of the EQS SUV model – EQS 450+ with 360 horsepower and 568 Nm which has an electric motor at the rear, then EQS 450 4Matic with 360 hp and 800 Nm which has two electric motors on axles and the strongest version EQS 580 4MATIC of 544 hp and 850 Nm which has four powerful all-wheel drive engines.
Depending on the vehicle’s equipment and configuration, the possible range of the EQS SUV model is from 536 to 613 kilometers.
Batteries, high-voltage cables and other components are designed and protected to meet the high safety requirements of Mercedes-Benz in the event of an accident.
The company also announced that it will recycle batteries from Mercedes electric vehicles, and for that purpose, a factory for recycling batteries based on hydrometallurgy will be built in Germany. Analogous to this technology, the company plans to close the recycling cycle with high-tech battery recycling partners in China and the United States.
The company’s statement also states that with this model, Mercedes-Benz is making a big step towards zero-emission mobility. The EQS SUV is manufactured in a completely carbon-neutral way and is the ideal solution for zero-emission mobility, intelligent resource conservation and a responsible circular economy.
