Although women’s participation in the country’s theater practice is low, they have taken themselves to a unique height. For example, female actors are at the forefront of solo acting dramas. In Independence-North Bangladesh, a total of 25 solo plays have been staged, out of which 20 are plays by women artists. Women’s participation in theatrical practice in Bangladesh is low. Some drama groups have more than 50 male members but there are 7-8 female members. According to the history of drama, the theater troupes have been suffering from the crisis of women from the very beginning. But the small number of women who are working on the stage proves that they are ahead of others by looking at solo dramas.
In 1979, the first solo play ‘Kokilara’ was written and directed by Abdullah Al Mamun. Ferdousi Majumder acted solo in this two-hour long play. ‘Kokilara’ is a solo drama for female actresses on the stage of Bangladesh. Rokeya Rafiq Baby and Jyoti Sinha have acted in two solo plays. The solo dramas starring Baby include ‘Golapjan’ and ‘Request Concert’. Single dramas starring Jyoti Sinha include ‘Kahe Birangana’ and ‘Happy Days’.
Besides, the single dramas of female actresses are: Shimul Yusuf’s ‘Binodini’, Lucky Inam’s ‘Ami Birangana Balchi’, Munira Yusuf Memi’s ‘Fulrani Ami Tia’, Ferdousi Abedin’s ‘Strir Patra’, Momena Chowdhury’s ‘Lal Zamin’ ‘, Samiun Jahan Dolar’s’ Novera’, Shamchi Ara Sayekar’s’ Gahanyatra ‘, Rosie Siddiqui’s’ Panchanari Akhyan’, Juena Shabnam’s’ Helen Keller ‘, Raushan Jahan Rushini’s’ Biranganar Bayan’, Dipta Rakshit starrer ‘Amar Ami’, Tanima Alone One Woman ‘,’ Look at the doll ‘starring Shamima Akhter Mukta,’ Behula Ami and Satitva ‘starring Laboni Akhter. In which the play ‘Lal Zamin’ starring Momena Chowdhury has more than 250 exhibitions. This is the most staged solo drama in Bangladesh.
On the other hand, the male actors’ solo plays include ‘The Distant Near’ starring Mamunur Rashid, ‘Ami’ starring Khandaker Shah Alam and ‘Ami Rafiq Balchi’ starring Rafiq Natwar and ‘Himur Kalpit Diary’ starring Saddam Rahman. The country’s drama stakeholders hope that the number of female artists in the groups will increase with the inspiration of single plays. However, the theater moves forward with combined strength. As a result, Natangan is always in the forefront with the joint participation of all. However, the participation of women in the history of drama has continued to enrich the drama movement of the country. Meanwhile, after the lockdown of Corona, the drama of the country has started in a new way. It is also learned that several solo dramas are preparing to come on the stage.
