Wind power has become the main source of electricity in the UK for the first time
British wind farms provided about a third of the electricity supplied to the UK grid in the first three months of 2023, informs BBC channel citing a report from Imperial College London.
Along with energy from “windmills”, the generation of solar energy has grown in the UK. According to the TV channel, 42% of electricity generated in the first quarter of this year came from renewable energy sources and only 33% from traditional fossil fuels such as gas and coal.
The UK’s transition to carbon-neutral energy is being hampered by capacity shortages in the electricity supply system. Some projects with solar and wind power plants, estimated at billions of pounds, will have to wait up to 15 years for implementation, the channel notes.
Earlier, the UK authorities said they would try to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to zero by 20235.
