Will Jagr ever return to the ice? If the Winter Classic doesn’t happen, then maybe not

The 50-year-old owner of the Kladno Knights, who wore the jersey for them this spring, can still be seen near the Kladno team at the start of the new 2022/23 season. In matches, however, he appears only in civilian clothes on the changing table, where he helps the Kladno strategist Otakar Vejvod Jr. and passes on his experience to the players. When asked if his return to the lineup is imminent, he replied as follows: “It’s certainly not imminent, at all. To be honest, I don’t even feel like it. Only if the Winter Classic, which I promised, was still to be held, I would probably have to force myself to go play. Otherwise it doesn’t pull me back at all.”

As for the “Winter Classic” event, this event with open-air duels was supposed to be played in Špindlerův Mlýn, but it has already been postponed twice due to the coronavirus. It is no surprise then that the main promoter of this event is Jágr himself. Most recently, in connection with this event, there was talk that it would eventually move to Prague and should take place there this December.

However, this is not confirmed information, and therefore it is not certain whether fans will ever see Jagr in full hockey gear. “It’s possible. But as I say, I’ll see how it goes with the Winter Classic. Maybe it’ll give me a kick, I really don’t know. But honestly – at the moment I don’t have the motivation and I don’t even feel like it. I’d have to sacrifice a lot. Diet, regeneration, training.” Jagr revealed.

Jágr says all this despite his previous statements that he could start this extra-league season sometime in November or December. His last match in the Kladno jersey remains the play-off against Jihlava on April 25, 2022, when Central Bohemia won 6:3 and thus did not get relegated. Let’s add that during the last season, Jágr played in 48 games, during which he scored eight goals and assisted in another thirteen.
