Markus Duesmann, Audi’s first man, recently announced that the brand will become an electric car manufacturer even faster than previously planned. This means, quite precisely, that the models to be introduced from 2026 onwards will be purely electric and will run out of internal combustion resources pretty slowly by 2033. The e-tron SUV and e-tron GT will also be important pillars of this transformation process, but in terms of sales numbers, the brand new Q4 e-tron will probably be the determining factor. The recreational car, based on the MEB platform, as its name suggests, is located halfway between the Q3 and Q5 and is similarly available in a coupe-finished Sportback.
After the first seating test, two things left a deep mark on me. On the one hand, you don’t feel like you’re sitting in an expensive car (which is a surprise at Audi), and on the other hand, the legroom in the back is huge. Compared to the fact that the 4588 mm length is not a drab car on the Q4 e-tron, the second row can also travel comfortably at a height of 190 centimeters, especially since the floor is completely flat. Since the luggage compartment is 520 liters by default, we can safely say that the battery-electric drive does not have any disadvantages in relation to the body.
The big question, of course, is range and rechargeability! The model is launched with 3 types of power and 2 different batteries, the rear wheels of the base type (e-tron 35) are powered by a 170-horsepower electric motor, and the 52 kWh battery has a range of 341-349 kilometers. The 40 has a 204-horsepower rear electric motor, a 77 kWh battery with 520 km of WLTP range, while the top model is powered by a 50-quattro all-wheel drive with 299 horsepower electric motors powered by a 77 kWh battery. What they all have in common is that they can receive 125 kW of power supply, but it is another matter that there are not many such chargers in Hungary yet.
While the 299-horsepower design is obviously the most sporty, the dynamics of the 204-horsepower model cannot be criticized either. In a straight line, the Q4 e-tron is particularly fast, but when cornering and braking, it will quickly become clear how much the momentum is carrying the weight of more than 2 tons. The steering and chassis tuning are also comfortable, so overall the customer gets an infinitely quiet and sophisticated car for their money, while the minimalist and cool style with this powertrain makes it hard to evoke emotion in a person. Compared to other electric cars, the starting price of the Q4 e-tron is HUF 16,550,640, and the 204-horse model is also HUF 19,099,530, but it does not seem excessive compared to its counterparts with similar internal use values with internal combustion engines.
