Why you should not postpone your vacation and how to return to working days after it

The habit of recycling

According to research SuperJob, 8 out of 10 Russians overwork, and many work almost 1.5 times more than the allotted time. Workaholics most in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.

For residents of large cities, workaholism is a trait of character, they are forced to work because of higher prices, primarily for real estate, competition in companies and career prospects.

However, regular processing is fraught with professional burnout. Mental stress must alternate with rest and exercise, otherwise the functionality of the psyche is simply reduced.

Required timeout

Doctors have found that people who do not go on vacation for five years or more suffer from cardiovascular diseases six times more often than those who regularly take time out.

Scientists believethat employees need to take adequate rest every 62 working days. I recommend that employees take at least two weeks off.

Most often, inveterate workaholics who are afraid to leave because everything will “collapse” without them are inspired by the example of colleagues and the possibility of an interesting trip. For example, someone went to Mexico for two weeks, returned full of energy and shared new impressions with others.

Many global companies, including Netflix and Oracle, offer its employees an unlimited number of vacation days. Since professionals often have to work on weekends and after the end of the working day, organizations provide a chance to take the necessary time off for them to recover.

It is worth noting that teams do not abuse this opportunity, as they are used to working for results.

How to prevent burnout at work

Burnout syndrome affects different areas of life – from personal to professional. Rush at work, family problems and informational pressure can cause mental exhaustion, so it is important to preserve your physical and emotional resources.

According to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), emotional burnout is not recognized as a disease, but it is a serious factor affecting human health.

Companies implement various programsto provide employees with a decent work-life balance: from a free schedule and the ability to take pets to the office to non-working days on Fridays in the summer, in order to spend more time with the family.

We offer colleagues yoga in the office and organize corporate events – Friday informal meetings and foreign trips. We used to go to Munich and Budapest, in August we had a big corporate party in Turkey.

  • Switching attention

First of all, you need to switch attention and alternate between different types of tasks. So, it is not recommended to set up more than five working meetings a day, since communication with people requires significant energy costs.

To switch and rejuvenate, you can simply walk along the office corridor or chat with colleagues.

A little warm-up helps: if possible, you should get up and move at least periodically. It is worth remembering that working to the point of exhaustion reduces the quality of your work, as a result, it will take more time to solve problems.

  • Good Habits

On the physical level, sports, massage and meditation are obligatory. Yoga helps to reduce stress levels and cope with overexertion.

During the day, drink 1.5-2 liters of water, take a daily walk in the fresh air for at least 15 minutes and do not abuse caffeine and energy drinks. These good habits seem to be common knowledge, yet they are neglected by many.

  • Awareness of one’s own emotions

Finally, you can turn to a therapist or a friend who will listen to you. A person should analyze situations that cause negative emotions and get rid of harmful internal attitudes.

How to get back to work after a vacation

  • Integrate into work processes gradually. You can plan to end your vacation on Thursday, then you will have a whole weekend to slowly get used to the usual rhythm of life.
  • Organize tasks by priority. The time-boxing technique will help here: you need to write out all the tasks that have accumulated over the vacation, set priorities and make the optimal schedule for the day. This will help you feel the time and not procrastinate.
  • If you can’t focus on one task, then resort to time management. For example, the famous time management technique, the Pomodoro Technique, suggests that through deep concentration and short breaks, you can increase work efficiency while spending less time. The intervals of the workflow are called “pomodoros”, which are counted using a timer. One “pomodoro” is equal to 30 minutes, of which 25 minutes are working time, 5 minutes are rest. Thanks to the strict alternation of work and rest, a person is able to quickly and efficiently solve the accumulated problems.

It is important to remember that the work will not “collapse” while you rest, but may lose quality or even meaning to you if you do not take a break. Even a favorite thing can turn into a stream of hateful tasks if it takes up all your life time.

At the same time, the opportunity to travel, spend time with family and friends, devote time to personal hobbies and hobbies – these are exactly the ultimate goals for which you work.
