Why has aluminum become a leader among industrial metals?

It would not be possible to develop so quickly modern branches of technology without the use of aluminum. It is a metal that combines almost all advantages. It has been known for 2,000 years, and is also very common. It is easily modifiable, thanks to which it can be given many interesting properties. The natural result is such a wide use of aluminum both in everyday life and in very niche industries.

What is aluminum and how is it obtained?

Aluminum, colloquially known as aluminum, is one of the most abundant elements on Earth, right after oxygen and silicon. It makes up 8 percent of all soil and rock. It is most often in the form of an oxide and therefore requires processing before aluminum products are formed from it. We can often find it in the form of bauxite, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. In addition, aluminum is one of the few materials that can be almost 100 percent recovered through a recycling process with relatively low energy input.

Properties of aluminum and their modifications

Aluminum is a material that is:

-ultra light
– corrosion resistant
-good thermal and electrical conductor
-bezwonny
– easily formable

These properties can be easily and permanently modified. It can be done min. by strengthening and combining it with other elements that make up specific alloys. One of them is, for example, the 6060 aluminum alloy, containing an admixture of magnesium and silicon, which increase the strength of the obtained material.

The use of aluminum

Due to the fact that aluminum can be processed in many different ways, we can find it in many interesting products and semi-finished products. One of the most popular forms are extruded profiles and sections. They are readily used in the production of shutters. All types of aluminum sheets are also popular on the market. Among them, we can find sheets with a smooth texture, as well as grooved and patterned. It is used for the production of, among others, medical and chemical equipment. Due to the excellent properties of reflecting light rays, aluminum can be found, for example, in hospital lamps. When talking about the use of aluminum, one cannot fail to mention the pipes made of it. Taking advantage of the fact that they are not very susceptible to corrosion, they are used to make barriers and supports used in road construction. These elements can withstand unfavorable weather conditions for many years. Due to the widespread availability of aluminum products through companies such as hardware store METALKAZ, a situation in which we would have to look for substitutes becomes rare.
