It will depend on the amount of their income. This was stated by the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Health (MH) of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Eliášová. However, the President of the Slovak Chamber of Pharmacy (SLeK) Ondrej Sukeľ warns that not all medicines will be free of charge and they will not be free of charge for all pensioners.

Who is entitled?

According to the amendment to the Act on the scope and conditions of reimbursement of medicines, a patient with an income of less than 680 euros per month is entitled to a waiver of the supplement.

“Zero supplements refer to the medicines with the lowest surcharge of comparable medicines. For comparable medicines with a higher surcharge, the surcharge will be reduced by the value of the surcharge of the cheapest alternative. “ Elijah approached.

From the new year, the change will affect holders of a natural person with a severe disability (ŤZP), holders of a ŤZP with a guide, disabled pensioners, recipients of an invalidity retirement pension or disabled people who are not entitled to an invalidity pension. Entitlement to a new one will also arise, for example, for old-age pensioners or recipients of early old-age pensions.

“Entitlement to waive the supplement remains in place for patients with an income of more than 680 euros per month. The health insurance company will continue to return co-payments to patients in excess of the co-payment limit at the end of the calendar quarter, “ Elijah assured.

Medicines at no extra charge

In mid-December, Sukeľ pointed out that the waiver of co-payments for medicines will not apply, for example, to pensioners who are still working or doing business.

He emphasized that the waiver of the supplement only applies to medicines that are at least partially reimbursed by the health insurance company. “Medicines fully reimbursed to patients continue to be reimbursed by the patient,” explained Sukel.

He pointed out that the amendment does not change the principle according to which the mechanism of waiving the supplement also takes into account whether the given drug has or does not have a cheaper alternative.

“The drug will be free of charge, but only if the patient chooses the cheapest one from the group of drugs. If not, the medicine will be with a supplement, “ pointed out Vice-President of SLeK Miroslava Snopková.

Patients who are entitled to a waiver of the supplement will not have to prove their income at the pharmacy, because the health insurance company will automatically inform the pharmacist about the right when the medicine is dispensed.
