First of all, in one breath, I will mention titles from PlayStation Studios – that is, internal companies creating on behalf of Sony. Many games are not available on any other hardware – these are exclusive titles that were created for the consoles of the Japanese manufacturer. Are they all worthy of the high marks given by the reviewers? You could probably discuss it for hours, but the fact remains that these are just solid, solid titles that squeeze the last juices from PlayStation consoles on the day of their premiere. This is the highest shelf – and it’s solidly differentiated. Ghost of Tsushima is not only beautiful views, but also a large, open world. God of War is above all a beautiful story about the relationship between father and son, Spider-Man is the quintessence of fun, Returnal can give you a hard time – but whoever played it knows that it is impossible to tear yourself away from this fun. The film adventures of Drake and the company in Uncharted need no special introduction, and Wipeout is a futuristic race that simply hypnotizes. We have been playing various installments of the series for years – and there is no indication that anything in this matter will change in the near future.

Sometimes I think that everyone already knows this game – and then it turns out that it’s just the magic of hanging around with players who reach for something more than FIFA and Call of Duty on a daily basis. A fantastic platform game that can give you a hard time – because let’s face it, it’s hard. But it’s the type of game we’re learning every minute and we’re getting better all the time. In addition, a phenomenal story that stays with players for a long time. See for yourself.

Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal is one of the proud representatives of the FPS genre from id Software. The next installment of the legendary series, in which we play the role of a nameless hero known as Doom Slayer. The last defender of humanity in the fight against the army of demons. The plot of the game takes place directly after the events presented in “Doom” from 2016, which ended with the destruction of Ancient Evil. Like all the rest of the series, the game offers intense action, fast-paced gameplay and brutal clashes with opponents. Doom Slayer is equipped with a wide arsenal of weapons, which can also be modified and upgraded during the game.

This time, a huge emphasis was placed on the dynamism and mobility of the player. The hero has various skills, such as jumping over long distances, using a hook or even… brutal executions of enemies. Brutally satisfying fun, which additionally impresses with its setting.

Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX

Two phenomenal games from the first PlayStation some time ago got a version for modern consoles. No disc juggling, no waiting, but with a whole range of improvements: the option of immortality, the option to go without hours of tedious grinding, and even skip random fights. And it’s all embellished with upscaled graphics. The stories and relatively simple mechanics haven’t aged a bit – and it’s still a pleasure to follow the complexities of the characters. I regularly return to the VII and IX parts of the series – and in this version it’s pure pleasure!

Returnal

“Returnal” is a fast-paced roguelike action game from Housemarque. The production hit PlayStation 5 in April 2021 and won recognition for its innovative approach to the genre and for its addictive gameplay. The action takes place in the future and focuses on the heroine named Selene, who is an astronaut and goes to the mysterious planet Atropos. She is looking for an answer to a mysterious signal that heralds something extraordinary. Unfortunately, shortly after landing on the planet, Selene becomes embroiled in a cycle of rebirth where she dies and returns to the start of her journey. As players, we play the heroine and try to survive the constant cycle of death and rebirth. Each of her deaths is used as a narrative element, advancing the story and revealing the mysteries of the planet Atropos. The gameplay is based on dynamic shooting, fast movement and a strategic approach to combat. Exciting fun that draws you in for dozens of hours!

Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris Effect is a game worth every penny for me. I melted about it in the review – at its premiere. And since the premiere, I’ve been playing it regularly on what I can – not only on PlayStation consoles, but also on Xbox (where it is also available as a subscription) and Switch. Nothing more, nothing less – pure perfection!

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is the seventh major installment in the popular Yakuza series. This time, however, it’s hard to say that the creators served us “more of the same”. This game is fundamentally different from its predecessors both in terms of gameplay mechanics and … the hero we will play as. Kasuga is a young man who is a devoted member of the Japanese mafia. The story focuses on his adventures and fights against crime in a fictional city modeled on Yokohama. But apart from the hero, the combat system has also changed – the inept beat’em up has been replaced with a turn-based approach. We choose the moves of our characters from the menu and, as in classic jRPGs, we observe their execution. Captivating, crazy at times as befits a Yakuza, a story that keeps you in suspense until the very end. For those bored with classic parts – a solid breath of fresh air, which is undoubtedly worth giving a chance!

The best games in the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog (PlayStation 3)

PlayStation 3 games with PlayStation Plus Premium subscription are only available in the cloud. This one, however, if you have a good network connection, works really well. The seventh generation of consoles is the one to which I devoted an indecent amount of time – and just browsing the catalog of games available as part of the subscription was a truly nostalgic journey for me. It was then – and choosing just a few games turned out to be more difficult than I thought, which is why the following list is quite substantial. Fortunately, these are games that you don’t even need to install – so checking out the next productions will be a matter of minutes!

If you like Japanese RPGs, the first series I can recommend without batting an eye is Atlier. As part of the subscription, you can play up to four versions: Atelier Ayesha: The Alechmist of Dusk, Atelier Meruru: The Alechmist of Arland 3, Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland and Atelier Shallie – Alchemists of the Dusk Sea. And although these four games can absorb for hundreds (I’m not exaggerating) hours, they are really just the beginning of a long list of hits. Apart from them, in the library we will find a shooter classic with an excellent plot: the trilogy Bioshock (first two parts in remastered editions, Infinite – Complete Edition). In addition, there is also a whole set of cult Devil May Cry slashers, next to which no fan of the genre can pass by indifferently. In addition, it is also difficult to pass by indifferently ENSLAVED: Odyssey to the Westa beautiful story that may no longer evoke such a WOW effect when it comes to visual aspects – after all, more than a decade has passed since its premiere – but despite everything, the journey itself remains extremely pleasant, and the fun mechanics still defend themselves – and give a lot of fun !

God of War has already appeared on the list of games from Sony’s internal studios – this new one. But it is on PlayStation 3 that you can play – in my opinion – the better installments of the series. Uploaded versions of the first games are waiting for us in the cloud – God of War HD and God of War 2 HDand God of War Ascension. All three are really demanding, but if you’ve never had the opportunity – it’s worth giving them a chance. Although I loyally warn you that this is a completely different caliber than the latest installment from PS4.

Fans of classic adventure games point and click they probably won’t be able to pass by indifferently The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and its direct continuation: Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge. It was in the era of PlayStation 3 that the first two parts of Monkey Island got beautiful remakes that 100% reflect the spirit of the original. The same sense of humor, the same (bizarre) puzzles, but a completely new audiovisual setting. Classic at its best!

Platform game lovers can also expect a real treat. In the cloud, a whole set of adventures of Ratchet and Clank will be waiting for them (Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault oraz Ratchet & Clank: Nexus). But it’s not over yet, because Disney has added its own to this catalog – including seven games from the Lego series (incl. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga), as well as slightly forgotten classics like Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. For my part, I also highly recommend a relatively unpopular, short, platformer Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!

Choosing just a few items from a library that consists of hundreds of titles is neither easy nor obvious – and above all, it is highly subjective. The above package is an original selection of games that are worth getting to know – although it is known that a lot depends on personal genre preferences. I also look at titles from years ago with a dose of nostalgia – so even if I notice that they have grown old, they still give me a lot of fun.
