“They are renting out a shed for 500 EUR”: What is the OFFER OF APARTMENTS on the day of the start of EXIT?

The most famous festival in Serbia EXIT starts tonight, and it is expected that more than 200,000 visitors from all over the world will pass through the gates of Petrovaradin.

Weeks before the actual festival in Serbian Athens, Novi Sad, the topic of finding accommodation is raised, and those who are not accommodated in one of the camps generally opt for private apartments or hostels, which must be reserved several months in advance.

A good program almost inevitably means a large attendance in Novi Sad and EXIT-, but also booking accommodation, buying cheap tickets, as well as looking for jobs at the Exit festival or in anticipation of it. Prices are generally higher than usual, and landlords try to get the best one in order to make money, so they wait until the last moment to rent out an apartment, room or house.

Apartments are most often advertised on large platforms such as Booking or Airbnb, but there are also groups on social networks dedicated only to ads for apartments for rent in Novi Sad during EXIT.

Prices exceed quality

We took a look at one of the groups on Facebook to see what kind of accommodation is offered and at what price, and whether it is even possible to find it on the day of the festival itself. It is noticeable that citizens who normally do not offer their apartments for rent, but decided to do so during the Exit, announced themselves.

Prices are generally per day, 100 euros and more, or per person where landlords ask for 20 or 30 euros per night. As can be concluded from the announcements from several rental groups, it is in everyone’s interest to rent out the apartment for all four days.

The location of the apartment, apparently, does not play a big role, so for almost similar prices you can find an apartment in the center and an apartment on the outskirts of Novi Sad.

BIZLife interlocutor Milica Jović says that she still hasn’t found accommodation, and that she plans to stay in Novi Sad for three days, from Friday to Sunday.

“Now it is difficult to find accommodation because the festival is already starting, the apartments have been rented out or the prices are abnormal. It happens that many cancel the landlords, so they report that they are free and can rent. A few days ago I saw an ad for an apartment that looked like a shed, a man asked for 450 euros for three days. It’s mind-boggling,” she notes.

According to her, it used to happen to her that the landlords canceled the accommodation at the last minute because they found someone to whom they would rent for more money, and that she had already paid a deposit as a guarantee.

“I learned a long time ago that no deposits are out of the question if the person doesn’t seem reliable to me, precisely because of things like this. I completely understand landlords, but sometimes there has to be a limit,” added Jović.

If you have not already booked accommodation for EXIT, it is best to do so by recommendation, some of the options are the aforementioned Facebook groups where apartments are advertised, where you can find an apartment, room or house at a very decent price.
