What does it look like in the world? So “screening” in the Camargue and more …

Today in Poland, the topic of Polish beach screening is mulled. Our salon sweeper “Siukum Balaa” wrote a good note about it, and I only follow the trail that was cleared by Siukum. https://www.salon24.pl/u/siukumbalala/1244231,za-parawanem-adama-michnika

Alpine’s confession on the seizure of the beach under its own four letters and more …

From an early age of my life, I had a tendency to build beach fortresses and thus appropriate the beach to others.

I regret every dug out huge game, which was entered not only by my closest family, but also invited guests. It was extremely selfish behavior.

What was worse, I was digging a moat around the sand castles being built and I felt in those castles like a lord on the estate, oppressing the local peasants. I do not mention the peasants because I have never been interested in them.

I was proud because I wanted the biggest and most beautiful castle on the beach. Therefore, I conducted experiments to build the highest and slender sand towers.

Even worse, using what washed ashore after the storm, I tried to enclose our beach mansions. These were not only boards, but barrels of military smoke candles of the Polish Navy and old ones from the Kriegsmarine times, used to create a smoke screen during RAF maneuvers, combat and air raids. There were also beautiful scales from ship cannons and coastal batteries – the latter, even 150mm caliber, which, when fished from the sea, I put into the fence and carefully polished so that they reflected the sun, could blind other sunbathers, which I did not even think about.

Reading reports about Polish sunbathers practicing “screening” I remember all my sins.

And I would have forgotten that I appropriated beach baskets for myself and my friends, running as fast as I could in front of my parents to annex them as soon as possible and smack them there – danger! – beach bags that sometimes reserve up to 3 baskets. What an unjustified selfishness.

My greatest regret is that even in a secluded area by the charming Lake Czajczy near Wisełka, I grabbed the entire peak of the post-glacial “Otter’s Boulder” for myself, from which I tried to use my own fishing rod, made of twine, string and safety pin, to no avail. It never occurred to me to invite anyone to the top of this boulder, and it is no excuse for me that within a radius of 2 kilometers perhaps there were no other living souls than our small group. I always started climbing a boulder by throwing a bath towel on its top and then sitting on it. I did not know then that the towel thrown over the place of sitting or lounging is the hallmark of German and English tourists and sunbathers.

I can not understand how these primitive beach entertainment could attract Polish Navy sailors serving on ORP “Błyskawica”, and delegated during the holidays to act as lifeguards on the beach in Świnoujście-Warszów, which I had been constantly occupied for many years in a row throughout the summer holidays. It was these rescuers who allowed me a lot, helping me build more fortresses and putting my lifeboat on board, as soon as they finished official working hours or hung up a black flag, formerly forbidding bathing when the Baltic was blooming with cyanobacteria and the sea was calm.

It is strange that despite the fact that there was a fierce struggle on the beach for living space and the most beautiful castles, people from Paris dragged on this sandy stretch, distant from the city of Świnoujście, every summer. It was also very colorful at times, because families with adopted African and Vietnamese children came from East Germany, they felt at home and maybe even better, because every child wanted to play with them.

And years later, when I was finally able to stand on the beaches of Provence, I realized that it could be much worse here. Here, because we will meet not only: “tenting”, “grajdoling” and “screening”, and no one will even fight for a beach basket.

Real fortresses are built here, on stilts on the water, on the dunes and on the beach itself. This “wilderness” for the editors of Gazeta Wyborcza would be completely shocking. Because here, no one just hammers a screen, but fences made of corrugated sheets and rails are erected here. He puts on permanent trailers, and even places these trailers far from the mainland as artificial islands. And it is strange that every summer thousands of regulars who cannot imagine a better vacation than on a board with a sail and a flying wing are smacked at these iconic places, and then they sit down in their fortresses and gardens and drink wine, whiskey, or beer, eating the barely touched the heat of the grill with bloody beef from a just butchered black bull.

Look at these photos below taken in Camargue and think about Poles who are so feeeeee because they put the screens apart. O tempora o mores!

And finally – people, take it easy, life is so beautiful!
