For commuters, people coming to Austria for work, study, for family reasons and for life partners, the so-called rule 3G – obligation to submit a certificate of vaccination, overcoming COVID-19 or a negative test result.

However, the recognized validity of PCR tests will be reduced from seven days to 72 hours, with antigen tests being valid for only 24 hours instead of 48 hours.

As nationally in Austria, the validity of vaccination cards will be reduced from one year to nine months when entering the country. The measure is subject to a transitional period until December 6, the APA said.

High numbers

On Wednesday, the Austrian authorities reported a record daily increase in the number of new cases. In the past 24 hours, 14,416 have registered them, which is the most since the beginning of the pandemic and well above the average of the last seven days (12,164).

The seven-day incidence rose to 953.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 919.4 on Tuesday. Another 41 patients have died since Tuesday.

The highest increase was again recorded by the federal state of Upper Austria (a record 4423 cases), followed by Lower Austria (2294 cases).

The hospital currently has 2,723 patients with covid, 155 more than on Tuesday. There are 486 of them in intensive care units.
