Western embassies ask Myanmar military to refrain

Suara.com – The Western Embassy in Myanmar on Sunday (14/2/2021) asked the local military to “refrain from violence against demonstrators and civilians” after security forces opened fire to disperse the crowd.

Military forces also deploy armored vehicles in a number of cities.

In a statement released on Sunday the embassies of the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada and 11 other countries condemned the arrest of political leaders and harassment of media crews in the aftermath of the February 1 coup.

The statement also criticized the breakdown in military communications.

World leaders, including United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Pope Francis, have condemned the military coup against the civilian government.
