Weather forecast: a remarkable snowfall to come in the northeast, 8 departments in orange vigilance

WEATHER – Episodes that have become unusual in recent years. This Wednesday January 13, Météo France has placed eight departments in north-eastern France on orange vigilance snow and ice, due to relatively heavy snowfall to come overnight and into the morning of Thursday.

In detail, it is the Ardennes, the Meuse, the Meurthe-et-Moselle, the Moselle, the Vosges, the Haut-Rhin, the Bas-Rhin and the territory of Belfort that are concerned. Further south, Haute-Savoie is also shown in orange on the maps of the national meteorological body.

Concerning a large part of the Grand Est region, therefore, Météo France explains that snowfall will intensify at the end of the night from Wednesday to Thursday, and that it should last until Friday morning. In addition, cold roads due to the frosts of the last few days will be made particularly slippery for motorists.

“In these departments, we expect accumulations of around 7 to 15 cm, or even locally a little more, during the episode,” wrote Météo France, specifying that it will be slightly less around Strasbourg.

In Haute-Savoie, on the other hand, the orange vigilance is linked to a more common episode, but follows the passage of several precipitations in recent weeks and already significant amounts of snowfall in recent days.
