“WE WANT THE STATE TO BUY WHEAT!” – Farmers Stiga BLOCKED ROADS

This morning, Stiga farmers set off with tractors to block traffic between Pozarevac and the highway, which will prevent western Serbia from communicating with Belgrade, demanding that the state buy the necessary quantities of wheat at the market price for commodity reserves, said Nedeljko Savic, president of the region’s farmers’ association.

He told Beta that they have repeatedly asked the state to discuss with its representatives the possibilities for buying part of the surplus wheat for the Republic Directorate of Commodity Reserves, to allow free export of wheat and change subsidy policy primary agricultural production.

“Several times we asked to talk to the authorities about our requests, but they did not meet our needs. “This morning, they called us and asked us to postpone the protest, promising to allow us to talk to the President of the state, Aleksandar Vučić, because they said that he was in charge, but we do not have a written confirmation,” Savić said.

According to him, the protest was duly reported to the police and the blockade is planned to last until the start of negotiations.

According to Savić, agricultural producers started the protest with 170 tractors.
