The United Nations Global Compact Spain has just presented a communication campaign on social networks under the slogan #WeHaveUnPact in order to reinforce business sustainability and publicly expose the value of the commitment of Spanish entities to sustainable development. Through this campaign, it will be announced which entities have signed the United Nations Global Compact in our country. Currently, they are part 921 partners, 15% more than last year. One of the last companies to join this initiative was the Hijos de Rivera Corporation.
Cristina Sánchez, executive director of the Spanish Network of the United Nations Global Compact, he says he is aware of the current challenges “posed by sustainability at a global level and for Spanish organizations”. “Reality demands activism and strength from us around basic principles that grant them a basic license to operate, which in our case translates into a corporate commitment to respect human rights, care for the environment and transparency, in short, a pact with sustainability ”.
With this campaign in favor of business sustainability, the United Nations Global Compact Spain aims to highlight a different way of doing business. In addition to highlighting the commitment of the 921 partner entities in Spain, The purpose is to draw attention so that companies integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into their philosophy.
“Today more than ever, we need a transformative movement of companies that lead businesses with positive impacts on people and the planet,” adds Sánchez, who adds that it is essential that more companies join this type of initiative to change the production model.
More than 1,000 good practices for sustainability
This bet has also led to the launch of 1,019 good practices that the partners of the United Nations Global Compact Spain are carrying out. The main themes promoted by the companies have had to do with the environment and human rights, among which the gender equality and health. Regarding the size of the companies involved, 60% of them have been large companies, while 2 out of 10 of these initiatives have originated in the national ecosystem of SMEs.
Strategic actions have focused, above all, on reduce the carbon footprint, move towards a circular economy or eliminate plastics in products and supplies, in line with part of the commitments that are currently being debated at the Climate Summit (COP26), which is being held in the Scottish city of Glasgow. Spanish companies have also developed good practices in relation to training in environmental matters, as well as in female leadership.
