Acura (Honda) decided not to throw an early test model of the NSX in the trash, but to recycle it in the most stylish form possible. The car manufacturer entered the 2023 One Lap of America to the race, behind their car – which is also NSX – and a halved NSX was hung, in which the service parts were placed.

The 5,150-km, eight-day road “rally” took place between May 6-13, qualifying rounds were held in 15 states and on the best racetracks in the United States. Since the entered car had to cover the distance on its own, the Acura team decided to pack fresh tires and service parts into the special trailer for the racetrack time trials, so that their cars would be in the best shape for these stages.

The car was driven by Justyn Bobinksi and Chad Gilsinger, two vehicle dynamics and braking engineers at Honda’s North American Automotive Development Center in Ohio. Aside from the racing paint, lightweight wheels, and of course the tow bar, it’s a fully stock Acura NSX. The trailer is even equipped with a reversing camera to make things easier for the driver.

Honda NSX in brief

Honda produced the second generation of the NSX between 2016 and 2021. A total of 1,510 units were sold in Europe and the United States during this time. The NSX’s powertrain is based on a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo gasoline engine that drives the rear axle with its 507 horsepower. But there are three more electric motors in the system. The first works based on the crankshaft. Its output is 35 kW, its job is to eliminate the turbo hole of the gasoline engine between 500 and 2000 revolutions per minute. The other two are 27 kilowatts each and spin the front wheels.
