WDR launches new climate app for young people

From now on, young people should deal with climate change in a completely new way with the WDR climate app.


The WDR climate app makes it possible with the latest technology, the provider announces. Thanks to augmented reality, students in the classroom suddenly find themselves in the middle of a burning forest in Gummersbach or see masses of water from the flood in the Ahr valley all around them. Young people from NRW impressively describe their lives with climate change and how they are becoming active themselves. With the application, teachers can receive support for sustainable school lessons, according to the broadcaster.

WDR director Tom Buhrow: ‘What does climate change mean in concrete terms – also on our doorstep? Our new climate app provides answers and makes possible what textbooks alone cannot do: Pupils can intensively and interactively deal with this topic, which is so important to all of us. With this app we are expanding our range of innovative and digital educational content at WDR, which also includes the apps ‘WDR AR 1933 – 1945’ and ‘Stolpersteine ​​NRW’.’

The climate app is free, barrier-free and available now for iOS tablets and smartphones. The release for Android devices is to follow shortly. Additional material for using the app in the classroom is available to teachers, according to the WDR dieklimaapp.wdr.de to disposal.
