Waste leather bags
New Dutch design fashion label Trashious turns waste into quality timeless bags and accessories for the real Trashionista.
New brand Trashious is the first fashion label that introduces high-quality products exclusively from sustainable, animal-friendly, circular alternatives to animal and synthetic leather. Their first collection consists of bags made from wine, apple, pineapple and cactus aval. Their motto is therefore: trash to treasure.
The Trashious story starts with a trash can
Not the best start for a high-end fashion label you might think. On the contrary! We are all aware that the global waste mountain has become a huge problem. We can no longer ignore it. Literally!
With their endless love for beautiful bags and accessories, and because they want to stop further pollution of our planet, Esther Koolen and Jolanda Cornet, 2 Dutch entrepreneurs, have started a search for a sustainable, animal-friendly and circular alternative to the current animal and synthetic (plastic) leather. Because replacing animal leather with ‘vegan’ leather does not mean that it becomes more environmentally friendly. Many alternatives to animal leather contribute even more to global pollution, as synthetic leather does, for example. They found it during the 2019 Dutch Design week in Eindhoven. There they encountered a completely new world of ‘green’ waste.
Vegan, plastic-free leather.
The Trashious bags are made of vegetable leather that is produced without intensive water use and without chemicals, phthalates or PVC.
Wijnleer – Wine is always the answer
The worldwide wine production of no less than 26 billion liters per year leaves behind mountains of waste. Waste that is currently being made into a sustainable alternative to leather. cheers!
Appelleer- An apple a day
Can you imagine? Apple leather is made from the apple seeds and peels that are thrown away as residual waste in the industrial food industry.
Ananas “leer”- Shine like a pineapple
Pinatex, as the material is called, may not be called leather, but the beautiful structure of the material suggests it. It is made from a by-product of the pineapple fruit industry: pineapple leaves.
Cactusleer- A sharp idea
In Mexico plains are full of the Nopal cactus; a plant that does not need water to grow and whose fruits are used for food and supplements. The leaves were thrown away for years, but are now given a second life. It is now made into leather.
The collection consists of 5 models that are available in different versions and leather types:

Rebecca Cabau van Kasbergen
The bucket bag was developed by Rebecca Cabau van Kasbergen and part of the proceeds will be donated to Free a Girl, the foundation against child prostitution of her sister Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen. A goal that Trashious fully supports.
Think outside the trash!
The search continues. As Trashious discovers more and more animal and environmentally friendly materials, their mission is to continue to surprise with many more beautiful products made from ‘trash’.
