VW still aims to overtake Tesla by 2025

Update: 02.09.2022 08:01

Even the new head of the Volkswagen Group, Oliver Blume, does not want to compromise on the goals already set by his predecessor, Herbert Diess. According to the Reuters agency, Blume should have declared at a meeting of the top managers of the largest European car company in Lisbon that he himself is a fan of electromobility. “I want to promote the maintenance of the current pace in this direction. And where possible, we intend to increase it even more,” he said. However, the company must not lose too much money in the process.

According to him, the intention to sell more electric cars with the brands of the Volkswagen group in 2025 than the American Tesla can handle is still valid.

So far, according to the development of sales, it appears that this may not be a completely unrealistic goal. According to current estimates, Volkswagen will deliver approximately 800,000 electric cars to customers this year, and next year it is expected to be approximately fifty percent more.

Tesla, which should sell over 1.5 million cars this year, intends to grow at a similar pace. It therefore anticipates an increase in sales by fifty percent in 2023 and crossing the threshold of two million cars sold. They are currently building new production plants. But of course, this drains the company of considerable financial resources.

Volkswagen, on the other hand, can currently sell relatively high volumes of electric vehicles without compromising its profit levels.
