Volvo has presented its small electric crossover: the EX30. The compact SUV has a range of up to 480 kilometers and the starting price is competitive: 36,795 euros.
After several teasers, Volvo today has its compact electric crossover EX30 officially announced. It is a smaller and cheaper alternative to the XC40which is more than 9000 euros more expensive.
The EX30 is a C-segment car with a length of 4.23 meters and a wheelbase of 2.65 meters. The new car is on parent company Geely’s smaller SEA2 platform, just like the Zeekr X and the Smart #1.
The compact crossover is available in three versions. The basic version starts at 36,795 euros and has a single engine with 272 hp. This version goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has a 49 kW battery pack, good for a range of 344 kilometers. The entry-level model will have a different type of battery, made of lithium iron phosphate (LFP), which is cheaper to produce.
There is also an Extended Range model (from 41,495 euros) with the same engine, slightly faster acceleration and a larger battery pack (64 kWh). This version has a driving range of 480 kilometers.
In 3.6 seconds to 100 km/h
The top model has a motor on the front and rear axle. This ‘Twin Motor Performance’ is available from 49,995 euros. The maximum power of the top model is 428 hp and the torque 543 Nm. It sprints from 0 to 100 in just 3.6 seconds, faster than other Volvos. The range is 460 kilometers. The top speed is 180 km/h on all EX30 versions.
Volvo claims that the car has a smaller carbon footprint. After 200,000 km of driving, the emissions are less than 30 tons, a quarter cleaner than the C40. Among the driver assistance options are Pilot Assist, which helps with overtaking, Park Pilot Assist, where the car finds a parking space and parks itself.
Infotainment and sound bar
The dashboard has a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with Google services, wireless Apple CarPlay, 5G support, USB-C ports and over-the-air updates, among other things. The soundbar runs across the entire width of the dashboard. For the interior there is a choice of four designs.
