Volvo has officially announced that all its electric models in the future will be made without genuine leather. The Swedish company noted that this is in line with its ethical attitude towards animals and the sustainability of resource use.
Volvo introduced the electric C40 recharge in March last year, which was full of new and interesting details, and one of them is the fact that leather is not used in the production of this model, even though it is a luxury vehicle.
The company specified in a statement that this decision will be applied to all models from 2030, which is also the deadline set by Volvo for a complete transition to electric cars.
Instead of leather, Volvo offers sustainable, high-quality materials, made from biological and recycled sources. One of them is nordico, a new car interior material made by Volvo. Nordiko consists of textiles made from recycled materials such as PET bottles, biological material from sustainable forests in Sweden and Finland, and recycled cork from the wine industry. This material will have its premiere in the next generation of Volvo models.
Volvo will continue to offer optional wool-based upholstery, but only from suppliers who behave certified responsibly. The decision to stop using the skin was made because Volvo is concerned about the negative environmental impact of raising livestock, including deforestation.
