Volatile market full of irregularities

Commissioners from Consumer Protection temporarily stopped the operation of the floating market located on the set of the Military Academy in the Capital and its warehouse following checks carried out at these units during Sunday, October 2.

The checks were determined by issues reported by consumers in the online environment, it is stated in a press release from the National Authority for Consumer Protection, sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

Teams of the Commissionerate for Consumer Protection of the Municipality of Bucharest (CPCMB) carried out an extensive control action at the flying market located on the plateau of the Military Academy in the Capital, managed by the economic operator SC MCA Family Market SRL, and at its warehouse, the work point of the economic operator SC Traditional Prod MCA SRL.

Following the detected irregularities, the commissioners of the CPCMB ordered the application of contravention fines in the amount of 35,000 lei, the definitive stop from marketing and the withdrawal from the circuit of human consumption of food products with deficiencies, the temporary stop of the provision of services until the identified deficiencies are remedied and the temporary closure of the unit for a period of up to 6 months, for both locations.

Commissioners who carried out checks at the warehouse found products stored in an unsanitary space, with walls laden with dust, cobwebs and cockroaches and fresh bulk food stored for sale in dirty plastic shuttles and in a refrigerator with rust all over the surface.

Also, frozen food products were packed in plastic bags without identification elements, with freezer burn (stored in freezer boxes, with a massive load of ice, and other food products were packed in unlabeled jars and stored in a non-functional refrigerator, loaded of rust and dust.

In addition, the ANPC teams discovered the storage for the sale of some food products with the appearance of adulterated products and some artisanal alcoholic beverages packed in plastic cans and glass demijohns, without identification elements, stored directly on the pavement.

At the floating market, food products similar to those in the warehouse were sold, and meat products were sold at room temperature.

Insects were discovered in the display windows of the food products and the refrigeration units used had depreciated sliding doors, thus not ensuring the tightness
