VOCOlinc Ripple: The Best Affordable Smart Diffuser on the Market | TEST

Winter is a time when humidity in homes drops sharply. It is ideal to keep it between 40 – 60 percent. If the humidity is lower, the air is too dry and irritates the respiratory tract. Humidity above 60%, in turn, creates a suitable environment for the multiplication of bacteria. And of course we don’t want to have either of these scenarios at home.

We don’t have to worry about high humidity in winter, the problem is low humidity. Just ventilate once and the humidity will drop sharply. The humidifier / diffuser can help us with this. One such device is a novelty – VOCOlinc Rpple. It comes with compact dimensions, can shine in different colors and, best of all, is completely smart.

This means that in addition to the classic buttons, there is also control via smartphone and even voice. Supports Google Home, Apple Homekit and Amazon Alexa. Since we are a portal about Android, I tested the device in combination with a solution from Google. Cena VOCOlinc Ripple is in the official e-shop 35.99 euros, if you buy a set of two diffusers, you pay 67.99 €. And given the options on offer, there really isn’t much.

How does an ultrasonic diffuser work?

VOCOlinc Ripple is an ultrasonic diffuser that can not only unleash your home, but also humidify the air, which is definitely suitable in the winter months. Just pour water into the tank and add a few drops aroma oil. At the bottom of the tank is a vibrating membrane that creates a mist. It is released into the surrounding air, which humidifies and prevails.

The advantage of the diffuser compared to a scented candle is especially its safety. You do not have to worry about a possible fire. And of course it can also humidify the air.

VOCOlinc Ripple construction and design

At first glance, the diffuser impresses with its compact dimensions. I didn’t expect it to be big, but it’s really tiny. This is definitely useful because it does not take up much space. It impresses with its simple design, which fits into any environment.

However, it also lacks a certain amount of extravagance, as the diffuser is able to shine in literally all colors. From a design that is nice but boring, you will suddenly make it an attractive element in the home.

The body is made of solid plastic and consists of several parts. At the top is a cover that forms the design of the device. Below it is the cover of the water tank and the lower part is the heart of the whole diffuser. There is a water tank, a complete humidification system and the necessary electronics.

When used, I am not just dependent on the application. I also have three hardware buttons, which are located at the bottom. The left one is used to turn the misting function on and off. One press turns the device on, the second increases the power, and the third turns it off. In the middle is a classic timer and the right button belongs to the lighting control.

Moisturizing and aroma oils

The VOCOlinc Ripple diffuser primarily performs two tasks in the household. The first is the humidification, which is really needed in the winter months. The second is to create a pleasant scent that will permeate the entire household. He makes both of these things great.

I’m glad he keeps the water nice inside and doesn’t splash around everywhere, which I’ve encountered a few times with humidifiers. It can work continuously for 8 hours at full tank. When it runs out of water, it automatically shuts off.

First connection to a smartphone

As it is a smart diffuser, a smartphone application is a matter of course. You can install it in the Google Play Store for Android and the App Store for Apple. During testing, I tried both versions, which are exactly the same.

First of all, you need to log in to your VOCOlinc account, which is also possible, for example, through a Google account. Adding a device is very easy. Just tap the “+” button at the top right, have the diffuser connected to electricity and the application will search for it automatically.

The pairing process follows, during which it will connect to your home Wi-Fi network (you will need to enter a password). Beware, like all smart devices, it only supports the 2.4 GHz band. Once connected, the application will prompt you to complete the basic settings. Place the diffuser in the room and name it, as well as choose a name for the RGB lighting that it has. This can be controlled separately.

Sophisticated application with a wide range of settings

I admit that there are more different options in the application than I expected. Practically everything can be set. But I’ll start fine. After clicking on the device, I have a choice of two options, which are the control of the lighting and the diffuser itself.

First of all, I must say that in the dark, the emerging colored fog, which is illuminated, looks very effective and will really appeal to everyone. Of course, the light can also be switched off, it has no effect on the work of the diffuser itself.

I can also adjust its brightness and even color. I have several preset colors, but there is also an RGB matrix where I can mix my own. A great feature is that the device not only has to glow, but can flash and breathe different colors. You set everything nicely in the application, even the speed of color transitions.

The application also offers a wide range of timer settings. I can fine-tune when the device turns on and off, but that’s not the end of it. For example, I can schedule a certain recurring time period here. For example, I want the diffuser to turn on automatically every Thursday between 11:00 and 12:00. No problem. The timer can be set for the lighting and humidification function separately.

Speaking of humidification, it offers two levels of performance. I can select a level, turn it on or off in the application. And of course there is also a timer setting when the device automatically shuts down.

VOCOlinc Ripple funguje so smart home

I also tried to connect the diffuser with the Apple Homekit and I was pleasantly surprised. Did you know that the VOCOlinc Ripple is the smallest diffuser on the market with Apple HomeKit support?

It is added to the Apple household by default, by loading a special QR code. I can control the diffuser and lighting by voice via Siri, but also directly in the Home application on iPhone, iPad or MacBook.

Since we are a portal about Android, I haven’t forgotten to connect to Google Home. The pairing process itself is very simple, just add a VOCOlinc account to the application and Google Home will load all the devices in it.

Subsequently, I named the VOCOlinc Ripple (diffuser and lighting separately) and placed it in a specific room in the home. Everything went smoothly and without any problems. The lighting control also works without reservation. I can use the Google Assistant to change the light intensity, color, or light on and off.

With the control of the diffuser itself, it is worse. I couldn’t turn it on or off with Google Now or Google Home. Although I can see the current status (whether the device is on or off), unfortunately it cannot be changed. Maybe it will be fixed in the future.

With the control of the diffuser itself, it is worse. Turn on and off using Google Now or
I couldn’t use Google Home. The only option is to give the command switch on all gadgets or create a group. However, you do not have to deal with this at all if you control the diffuser via the VOCOlinc application. It works without problems.
