Among the coronavirus vaccines, the virologist said about the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines that also arrived in Hungary on Tuesday: their active ingredients are essentially the same, they differ in their other ingredients, preservatives. This is why the Pfizer is more sensitive, while the Moderna is somewhat more resilient, the latter requiring only minus 20 degrees Celsius cooling.
Another difference is that the vaccination of Pfizer should be repeated after three weeks and that of Moderna after four weeks. At the same time, both provide protection about a week after the second vaccination, Miklós Rusvai added, according to MTI.
This protects the vaccine
In all cases, vaccines protect against the development of the disease and its severe, even fatal, course. It does not always protect one hundred percent from infection. The infection can enter the airways, but vaccinated people have a lower rate of virus production than non-vaccinated people, so the chances of passing on the infection are lower, the expert stressed.
According to the virus researcher, it is important to have a 60-70 percent vaccination, and in addition, dry warm weather in summer can reduce the spread of the virus. At the same time, Miklós Rusvai drew attention to the fact that it will be necessary to wear the mask “until the herd immunity is achieved”. He hopes it will no longer be needed in the fall. The mask also protects against respiratory diseases and influenza, so it may be recommended to wear it in autumn and winter, the virus researcher added.
