Vila Nova de Milfontes. Dolphin found in “high state of decomposition” on Malhão beach
A dolphin was found dead this Friday on the beach at Malhão beach, in Vila Nova de Milfontes, Odemira. The animal’s body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
The Maritime Police of Sines was alerted at 11:30 am through the warning of biologists from the Marine Science Laboratory (Ciemar) of the University of Évora, who were at the site and collected data for “the animal’s biometric file and samples for analysis”, said the commander of the Captaincy of the Port of Sines to the Lusa agency.
The dolphin was about 1.50 meters long and the causes that led to its death are still unknown, indicated the commander.
“The municipal services of Odemira have already been contacted to proceed with the removal of the dolphin from the sand, which should happen in the afternoon” this Friday, explained the official.
