Vehicles with front STOP lights are tested

One of the main rules of road safety is to see and be seen. This motto is also followed by Lumaco Innovations AG, which designed the front brake light system.

The founder of the company is Lubomír Marjak from Kysuce, Slovakia, who also has a European patent for this technology, and who expects that the front brake light will reduce the number of traffic accidents and alleviate their consequences. The system works using a green LED strip located on the front of the car, which lights up together with the rear brake lights when the brake pedal is pressed. The green color was chosen because it is unambiguous and quickly recognizable, he says HAK magazine.

The front brake light will be intended for pedestrians at crossings, as well as cyclists and other drivers, who will be sure that the driver of the car approaching them knows about it and brakes for it. In addition, the front brake light could become a useful assistant in a future where autonomous vehicles are likely to be included.

However, in order for the front brake light to be applied in practice, representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament require test results in use. The main testing will take place in the Trenčin region and partially in the Žilina region. Buses, road administration vehicles (cars, commercial vehicles and trucks) or cars of the region or its representatives will be equipped with green front stop lights. Altogether there will be several hundred vehicles. The testing, which began Sept. 22 and will run through June 22, is funded by both the county and Lumaco Innovations AG. In addition, the traffic police and universities in Bonn and Žilina are also involved in the international project.
