Vaccine succeeds Saudade as word of the year – Meios & Publicidade

Vaccine was named Word of the Year 2021, chosen by 45 percent of the approximately 35,000 online voting participants. The competition is under the responsibility of Porto Editora, the promoter of the initiative since 2009, with voting taking place throughout December.

The only word that came close to the one chosen by the majority of participants, in second place with 30.5 percent of the votes, was Resilience. At long distance, with 9.2 percent of the votes, the word Telework closes the top 3.

Out of the podium were Bazooka (6.5 percent), Cryptocurrency (2.9 percent), Podcast (1.9 percent), Budget (1.4 percent), Mobility (0.9 percent), Blackout (0.7%) and Moratorium (0.6%).
