Vaccine passport requirements can be extended

– We see it as a positive opportunity if it can make us avoid other restrictions or limitations, says Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) to Dagens Nyheter.

The decision means that the Public Health Agency from 12 January 2022 can introduce regulations on so-called vaccination certificates at restaurants, places for leisure and cultural activities, shopping places, places for private gatherings and in long-distance public transport.

– The spread of covid-19 is increasing in Sweden. We need to be prepared to quickly introduce more accurate infection control measures, says Lena Hallengren.

Vaccination certificates have been used since 1 December at public gatherings and public events indoors.

There are exemptions from the requirement for vaccination certificates, for example for people under the age of 18 or people who should not be vaccinated for medical reasons. Furthermore, vaccination certificates may not be used in grocery stores, pharmacies or other socially important activities. The use of vaccination certificates must also not mean that persons without vaccination certificates are denied access to, for example, dental care, health care or social services activities located in a shopping center.
