V.Čmilytė-Nielsen: Conservatives and I.Šimonytė must decide on J.Šiugždinienė’s future

According to V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, the ministers submitted answers regarding their expenses for activities as members of the Kaunas City Municipal Council.

“Yes, the situation is not pleasant, but that’s how I see it,” she said in the Seimas on Thursday.

According to V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, she spoke with S. Kairis, a member of the Liberal Movement. She stated that she had no reason to believe that he, as a member of the Kaunas City Municipal Council, vice-mayor, would have acted dishonestly.

The Speaker of the Seimas mentioned that he will, as far as possible, provide evidence as to what the municipality’s funds allowed.

“The question, of course, is how many years back they should be submitted.” He will apparently do everything he can to dispel doubts,” said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

She said she had no reason to stop S. Kairis’ membership in the Liberal Movement.

I. Šimonytė’s position does not comment

J. Šiugždinienė’s political future, in the opinion of the Speaker of the Seimas, is primarily determined by the decision of the party that delegated her – the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, as well as Prime Minister I. Šimonytė.

“For today, as I understand it, the minister remains to do her job,” she commented in the Seimas.

At the same time, V. Čmilytė-Nielsen emphasized that she would not judge the decisions of other parties.

“As I said, the future of Minister J. Šiugždinienė must be decided by the party that delegated her, the Prime Minister, whose responsibility it is. The Prime Minister explained and presented her position to the public very clearly and in detail,” she commented.

She did not comment on I. Šimonytė’s position.

When “Valstiecius” Giedrius Surpliis was considering the possibility of expressing no confidence in the Cabinet of Ministers, V. Čmilytė-Nielsen explained that this is a normal tool, a normal initiative.

From time to time, it is said that there are initiatives of interpellations for individual ministers, so there may be such a genre – a declaration of no confidence in the entire Government.
