Use Google Maps timeline

Are you going to some nice cities abroad this year and would you like to remember which places you have all visited? Then you can use the help of your Google Maps timeline, which shows your location history in a simple overview.

Your Google Maps timeline is more than just a map that shows which routes you traveled per day. Google is also always very good at recognizing places, including countries, cities, shops, restaurants and more. This way you can see which specific places you visited and when that was.

Here’s how you can use the Google Maps timeline:

  1. Open the Google Maps app on your Android phone or tablet;
  2. Tap your profile picture or initials;
  3. Choose My timeline;
  4. Press the three vertical dots at the top right;
  5. Select Settings;
  6. Check if ‘Location is enabled’ is displayed. If not, tap ‘Location is off’ and enable Location;
  7. Finally, check whether you see ‘Location is switched on’. If not, press ‘Location History is turned off’ and enable Location History.

If you’ve followed the steps above, Google will now track your location. This allows you to look back later on which routes you have traveled from that moment on. You also see how you have traveled, for example on foot, in the car or by plane.

To view your trips in your Google Maps timeline:

  1. Open the Google Maps app on your Android phone or tablet;
  2. Tap your profile picture or initials;
  3. Choose My timeline;
  4. Swipe left or right to view a different day, or tap Show calendar to choose a day.

In addition to the option to view per day, you can also search by Places, Cities and World. As a true holidaymaker, you can bring back all your memories.
