Ural presented its new basic model

In late 2022, as production moved to Kazakhstan, Ural quietly retired the cT model. For years, this lower-spec model was overshadowed by its larger, more capable, more popular Gear Up motorcycle.

Moving to one production bike – instead of one that was very popular and one that sold less, complicated the process, but made sense for a number of reasons. However, it left a hole in Ural’s line, which the company has now filled, so to speak, with the new Gear Up Base model.

Base is Gear Up in its purest form. It’s a stripped-down, no-nonsense bike that retains all the essential features of the Gear Up, including a robust two-wheel drive system, but removes all the extras included with the standard model. Gone are the auxiliary lights, bumpers, spare tire, rack for heavy luggage and stepped seat. You get a bench, basic equipment and that’s it.

In addition to the simple base model, Ural envisions the Base as a kind of blank slate on which Ural owners can express themselves using a wide collection of accessories.

Now, obviously, customizing a motorcycle to the rider’s needs is nothing new, and it’s not new to Ural either. Now, having a dedicated platform to customize your own Ural model is something else, and there’s no doubt fans of the brand will embrace it.
