The geography of foreign students at the Southern Federal University is quite wide, representatives of the countries of Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America study here. Many of them choose SFU on the advice of their friends and relatives. Rostov-on-Don and Taganrog – the two largest cities in the Don region and almost the entire South of Russia – it is in them that the university is located. Foreign students from southern countries easily adapt to the local climate, and after studying for a few years at a university for a bachelor’s degree, they remain to complete their studies in a magistracy, and some even in graduate school.
According to Yulia Likhacheva, 853 foreign citizens entered SFedU in 2022, 311 of them on a commercial basis and 542 people under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation. Winners of international competitions and talented young people who have been selected for education on the basis of the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo or the Russian embassy in their country can apply for quota education.
The number of places allocated to foreign citizens for studying under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation is increasing every year: in 2021, the annual quota for foreign students did not exceed 18 thousand places, in 2022 – 23 thousand places, and in 2023 there will already be 30 thousand places.
This year there have been some changes in the order of admission, now enrollment will be carried out in accordance with priorities, that is, applicants arrange in their application the areas of interest of interest in the sequence in which they would like to be enrolled.
