The NAMI Science Center has developed an autonomous driving system that can be installed on different cars in the future. The prototype based on Vesta began to travel in the fall, and recently NAMI spoke in more detail about the project. Of course, he “sees” other road users (evaluating their trajectories), pedestrians, traffic lights, signs. In processing data from sensors, both software algorithms and neural networks are used.

To test all systems, NAMI combines field tests with virtual ones. For the sake of tests, maps of several formats are created, combining filming of real fragments of the terrain with a canvas, markings, signs transferred into a virtual environment.

Vesta became unmanned for the first time last year. Since April 2021, a station wagon (video), built by “Mostransproekt” and MADI. The vehicle transports test bottles between the hulls.

Within the framework of the project, the research center also intends to create a system of automatic group movement of vehicles behind a piloted leader. This idea is essentially identical to the European project SARTRE, in which Volvo tested the movement of several drones in a caravan, in 2011-2012 (then up to five cars were lined up in a chain with a distance of several meters).
