United Nations Resolution: The historical speech of Bangabandhu is inserted

In the resolution titled ‘International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, 2023’ adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historical and great saying – ‘Friendship with all, enmity with none’, which is Bangladesh’s Fundamentals of foreign policy.

Turkmenistan raised the resolution in the General Assembly plenary against the global context of the post-Covid world order and the Russia-Ukraine war. It was unanimously adopted last Tuesday. The resolution is co-sponsored by all South Asian countries including Bangladesh. A total of 70 countries co-sponsored.

In a notification sent from the office of the Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, it was informed that the historic speech of Bangabandhu, one of the advocates of world humanity and world peace, was included in the United Nations Resolution for the first time.

Bangabandhu’s quote as inserted in the 14th paragraph of the resolution reads as follows: ?Recognizing the importance of fighting poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy and unemployment and emphasizing friendship with all and enmity with none in the spirit of constructive co-operation, dialogue and mutual understanding. It will help achieve these objectives.’

It is to be noted that the proposal of this paragraph was made from the conceptual basis of the issues on which Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman emphasized on the establishment of world peace while addressing the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 1974.

Under the direction of Ambassador Muhammad Abdul Muhith, the permanent representative of Bangladesh appointed to the United Nations, the diplomat of the mission. Md. Manowar Hussain worked intensively on the resolution from the preparation phase to the final phase. As a result, it is possible to include the historic speech of the Father of the Nation in this resolution adopted in an effort to advance world peace.
