Unboxing and hands-on with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro!

A new device that belongs to Redmi sub-brand by Xiaomi reached our hands for testing and presentation. This is it Redmi Note 9 Pro which comes to be placed in the mid-range market with price €299-329 and “hit” the “sweet spot” for many prospective buyers, being a smartphone that meets the needs of the average user. Let’s go see it!

We had the device at our disposal Interstellar Gray colour from Info-Quest Technologies, the official Xiaomi product distributor in Greece, but you will also find the Note 9 Pro available in Tropical Green and Glacier White colors. Gorilla Glass 5 front and rear (!) show the quality of the construction while in terms of design, it is an attractive but not “flashy” model. You will find it in the package Type-C cable, 33 Watts charger and a translucent silicone case which protects and offers the required grip for one-handed use. The weight is on 209 grams and a thickness of 8.8 millimeters, so the Note 9 Pro is classified as a “heavy” device, but with normal thickness.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a screen 6.67 “with IPS panel and analysis 2400×1080 pixels (20:9 aspect ratio), while the bezels are small, offering one 84,5% screen-to-body ratio. It is covered by Gorilla Glass 5 and supports HDR10 while rendering up to 450 nits brightness. We couldn’t measure the actual brightness in any way, of course, but in practice, in bright sunshine, it was enough to use the phone comfortably. The selfie camera is “hidden” in the small hole notch and so few pixels are “sacrificed”, which will satisfy many users.

In terms of hardware, the Redmi model has the mid-range Snapdragon 720G chipset, 6GB RAM and 64 / 128GB storage (UFS 2.1), but which is expanding via microSD. Is running Android 10 with MIUI 11 and has Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, among other connectivity methods. At the top you will also find IR blaster while there is also FM receiver radio frequencies. In addition, it has 3,5mm jack, while the fingerprint sensor located on the side, “inside” the power-lock key. Finally, let’s emphasize that it has triple tray for 2 nano-sim and 1 microSD.

Let’s go to the cameras that certainly belong to the highlights of the device. The rear quad camera has a main sensor 64MP with f / 1.9 lens, PDAF and gyro-EIS combined with 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth camera. LED flash is what one would expect in a mid-ranger and the camera can capture 4K video at 30FPS, 1080p at 120FPS and slow-motion 720p at 960 FPS. As for the selfie camera, it has a sensor 16MP with f / 2.5 lens, HDR and 1080p video capture at 30 FPS.

The sound comes from the single, powerful speaker and in terms of autonomy, we have a very large battery with capacity 5.020mAh which is also the main culprit for the heavy weight of the device. On the other hand, it offers tremendous autonomy and recharges with power 30W.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro is a complete device that will comfortably meet the needs of most users. As it turns out, it’s basically one upgraded Redmi Note 9S, but it has more RAM, 128GB storage and 64MP main sensor capability (instead of 48MP). It is therefore based on the quality of construction, design and overall hardware and software capabilities to justify its purchase cost and to some extent it succeeds.
