United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that military operations alone cannot end terrorism.
As part of his visit to Nigeria, the last leg of his mini-African tour titled “Ramadan solidarity”, UN Secretary General Guterres first came to Borno state, where the terrorist organization Boko Haram is active.
Guterres, in a joint press conference with Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, stated that the Nigerian government not only understands terrorism, but also adopts the right approach in the fight against terrorism.
Emphasizing that military operations alone cannot end terrorism, Guterres said, “It is important to build trust with the public and increase livelihood support for the victims of terrorist attacks.”
More than 20 thousand people have died in the mass acts of violence organized by the terrorist organization Boko Haram, which has existed in Nigeria since the beginning of the 2000s, since 2009.
