UN launches investigation into humanitarian abuses attributed to Russian troops – War in Ukraine

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UN) approved this Thursday the opening of an investigation into serious human rights violations attributed to Russian occupation troops in Ukraine, reinforcing Russia’s isolation in the Organization.

The resolution, passed by 33 votes in favour, two against (China and Eritrea) and 12 abstentions, asks the UN international commission on Ukraine to carry out an “investigation” into the serious human rights violations committed in the regions of Kiev, Cherniguiv, Kharkiv and Sumy in late February and March 2022, “with a view to holding Russian troops accountable.”

Russia was suspended last month from the UN Human Rights Council over its invasion of Ukraine.
