Two killed in wild elephant attack at Alikadam in Bandarban

Two people have been killed in a wild elephant attack in Bandarban’s Alikadam upazila. The incident took place at midnight on Saturday. According to the police and locals, a group of wild elephants carried out violence in the Reparpara area of ​​Aliksadam Upazila Chaikshyang Union in the district. Cropland and several houses were vandalized.

One person died on the spot due to wild elephant attack. Upon receiving the news, the locals were able to chase away the elephants by chasing them with fire sticks. Another died on the way to hospital from the scene. The deceased were identified as Mansur Alam, 18, and Humayun Kabir, 14.

The deceased were residents of Reparpara Kona area. Alikadam Upazila Chairman Abul Kalam said the wild elephants from the border area of ​​Myanmar often roam in the hilly areas of Chittagong adjoining upazilas through Alikadam, Naikhyangchhari, Lama, Bandarban Sadar Upazila. However, after a long time, people died again after being attacked by elephants in Alikadam.

When a group of wild elephants destroyed the crops at midnight on Saturday, the locals tried to chase away the elephants with torches and sticks. At that time, the two were crushed under their feet while fleeing after being chased by an elephant. Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Alikadam Police Station Rakib Uddin said the bodies of the two killed in the wild elephant attack have been recovered. A case is being prepared at the police station.
