Two people have been killed in a truck-CNG collision at Mymensingh-Netrokona highway’s Tarakanda police station. The accident took place at around 5 pm on Saturday (March 8) at Gachatala Bazar of Tarakanda Police Station.
Bijan Krishna Roy (55), the Durgapur correspondent of our time newspaper, was killed on the spot. Three more CNG passengers were injured at the time.
Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Another 40-year-old Abul Kashem died while undergoing treatment. No identities of the injured were immediately available.
The deceased was identified as Bijan Krishna Roy of Bagichapara area in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona district. The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, son of Nawab Ali of Dakshinpara village in Durgapur.
According to police and local sources, a CNG with journalist Bijan Krishna Roy and three other passengers was on its way to Durgapur from Mymensingh when it reached a place called Gachatala of Tarakanda Police Station.
Shyamganj Highway Police Inspector Nayan Das confirmed the incident and said it was raining heavily at the time of the accident. It is believed that one person was killed on the spot when the truck lost control and crushed the CNG. Another died at the hospital. The driver escaped but the truck was seized.
