Twister is back with a twist: as a mobile game

The classic game Twister has been around for almost 60 years, but now there is a completely new twist on the game: a version with bracelets and an app.

Everyone knows Twister: ‘right hand on red, left foot on green’, until everyone is lying on top of each other over the rug. The new version is called Twister Air and works slightly differently. And it is striking enough to play on your own.

Twister Air uses your phone or tablet’s camera to track players’ movements through colored bracelets and anklets. The game comes with eight of those tapes, but players will need a free Android or iOS app to play the new Twister.

At most two players at a time

The idea is that you imitate positions on the screen, while hearing one of the sixteen supplied numbers. Imitating and holding those poses as best as possible earns you points, and that’s how you can win Twister Air.

Too bad for people who like to end up on the carpet with half their friends: Twister Air is played with a maximum of two people at the same time, although a Teams mode is available in which players always alternate in duos.

Twister Air is available to pre-order today for $20 in the US, with delivery beginning in August. Dutch prices and availability are not yet known.
