TWICE’s Nayeon wins trial over ‘600 million in debt’… Law says, “There is insufficient evidence to acknowledge the loan”

Group Twice’s Nayeon (28, real name Lim Na-yeon) won a ‘debt investment’ lawsuit related to default of 600 million won.

According to the legal community on the 19th, the 13th Civil Affairs Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Chief Choi Yong-ho) ruled that Mr. A, Nayeon’s mother’s ex-lover, lost in the lawsuit against Nayeon and Nayeon’s mother for loan money.

Mr. A said, “At Nayeon’s mother’s request, I lent her the necessary funds, including living expenses. “Nayeon, who was a trainee, promised to repay the money when she debuted as a singer, but she broke her promise,” she claimed.

According to the ruling, Mr. A transferred approximately 535.9 million won to Nayeon over a two-year period from August 2004 to June 2016. Nayeon and her mother paid 115,612,093 won with a credit card in Mr. A’s name from March 2009 to February 2015.

The court acknowledged that Nayeon had transferred money worth 600 million won to Mr. A over 12 years, but judged that there was insufficient evidence to recognize it as a loan with a legal obligation to repay.

At the same time, considering the number, period, amount, and circumstances of the previous transaction, it was difficult to say that Mr. A and Nayeon agreed to return it. Mr. A did not appeal the first trial ruling, and this ruling was confirmed.

Nayeon’s agency, JYP Entertainment, said, “The judgment has been confirmed and concluded, so we have nothing to say as it has nothing to do with the artist’s entertainment activities.” They also added, “We will take firm legal action against any cases of defaming or insulting the artist through speculative posts.” “I will do it,” he said.
