During his visit to Pristina, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that Turkey and Kosovo have good cooperation, not only diplomatic, but also military. In that regard, military analyst Vlade Radulović points out that Turkey is a leader in arming the Kosovo Security Forces, reports Sputnik.

According to him, it is no secret that Turkey has been helping the KSF for years and that is why there are no surprises in these words of the Turkish minister.

– Essentially, Turkey is one of the strategic partners of the Kosovo Security Force in that segment, along with Germany, Great Britain and America. So far, the Turks have covered two segments in this area, one in the field of education of KSF members and the other related to various donations – states Radulović.

In the past few years, KBS has been procuring mostly light armored vehicles from Ankara, 14 military vehicles of the BMC Vuran 4×4 type. The vehicles provide protection against mines and “ballistic threats”, have front and rear cameras, automatic fire extinguishing system, central tire pressure adjustment function, automatic remote control option, air conditioners and are armored.

– However, in addition to the classic exercises in Turkey, they also had some types of training for aeronautical engineers due to the reflection system of lighter helicopters. So they started training in that segment as well, and several KSF officers are in Turkey where they are training for military pilots. So, they finished their training at the Turkish Military Academy, so that part is now covered as well – states Radulović.

However, he believes that Kosovo is much more interested in something other than the mentioned weapons.

– There is an interesting system that Turkey applies and it will most likely be done similarly to BiH that Turkey allocates certain funds of half a million or a million euros, not to speculate, for a donation to help with technical or equipment or education of KSF staff. but they do not give them the money to buy it, but the money goes directly to Turkish companies that produce weapons intended for them and only deliver it – explains this military analyst.

– Essentially, the KSF will be able to procure as many weapons as NATO allows. At this moment, Kosovo does not have much support for some stronger equipment, and that is the reason why, apart from some assault rifles and snipers, plus a few armored vehicles, there are still no heavy weapons – Radulović concludes.
