Traumatologists spoke about the most common injuries in winter – RT in Russian

The director of the Center for Medical Rehabilitation, orthopedic traumatologist Konstantin Ternovoy and the candidate of medical sciences, traumatologist Artyom Katulin, spoke in an interview with RT about the most common injuries among Russians in the winter, and also gave advice on how to prevent them.

According to Ternovy, the most common injury in winter is falling from his own height.

At the same time, according to him, most often patients break the radius in the area of the hand, as well as the elbow.

“When we fall, we stick out our hand to avoid hitting our head or face. This is the most common fracture. Also, the elderly break the neck of the femur … They see poorly, now it is dark, slippery – he stumbled and fell, his hands are busy with bags, they do not have time to put their hands out, ”the doctor explained.

The expert emphasized that in order to avoid injury, the correct shoes with tread soles should be chosen.

“Shoes without a smooth surface are desirable. Don’t be distracted by your phone while walking. A small piece of ice can delay your life by two to three months. Look at your step on potentially slippery areas, bend your knees slightly for better shock absorption and keep your hands free, ”Ternovoy explained.

In addition, the specialist warned that riding children on tubing in winter in places that are not permitted for this could result in serious injury.

Artyom Katulin, in turn, also noted that the most common injury is a fracture of the radius when a person falls, leaning on his arm.

“Either a fracture of the ankles, when the leg is tucked or a fixed foot, there is a rotation of the body to the right or left. And naturally, head bangs when falling on the ground, some kind of traumatic brain injury. There should be non-slip shoes, for older people – an additional support system. Now there are a huge number of options for plastic-type crampons, like climbers or climbers, ”he concluded.

Earlier, the director of the National Public Center for Traffic Safety, Sergei Kanaev, in an interview with RT, spoke about the basic rules for driving a car in a blizzard and ice.
