Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the Yaris WRC car with which it will compete at the 2021 FIA World Rally Championship.
The Japanese carmaker initially planned to enter the 2021 season with the WRC version of the new generation Yaris), but that won’t happen. Instead, Toyota will continue to compete with its previous-generation Yaris, though it has now been updated with a bodywork similar to that worn by the new GR010 Hybrid designed for the Le Mans Hypercar class of the World Endurance Championship.
Over the past four WRC seasons, Toyota has taken 17 wins and 322 stage wins with its current Yaris race car.
The new WRC Yaris will be identical to the previous one, except for an improved and more robust body that increases aerodynamics and is a few kilograms lighter than the previous one.
No changes have been made to Toyota’s driver lineup. Sebastien Ogier will continue to compete alongside co-driver Julien Ingrasia, while Elfin Evans and Scott Martin will reunite. Toyota’s third car will be driven by Cale Rovanpera and Jone Haltunen.
